Work Experience

We are passionately committed to offering work experience for prospective medical students from all types of background and experience.

Work experience in a caring or service role is now an essential step when getting into medical school. Medical schools will be looking for students who have gained a broad range of healthcare experience and we are happy to offer short placements to allow people to gain an insight into the working life of a GP.

We also offer a range of other work experience for nurses and other prospective allied healthcare professionals such as paramedics and pharmacists.

For further information and to apply for a work experience placement at Bridge View Medical please contact bnssg.bvmhr@nhs.net. Work experience takes place in June each year and we encourage prospective students to apply as soon as possible.

Applications can only be considered from students in full time education in Year 12 or 13.

We would also encourage you to think about the benefits of a longer term volunteer placement within South Bristol through the organisation BS3 who have lots of volunteering roles. Email- info@bs3community.org.uk or the online sign up platform https://bs3community.volunteermakers.org/

Physiotherapy work experience

It has been increasingly difficult to obtain formal work experience shadowing Physiotherapist in NHS hospitals and medical settings due to the sensitivity of confidential medical consultations. Universities will be looking for a broad knowledge base and understanding of all the different areas Physiotherapists work in, such as elderly care, sports, paediatrics and cancer care. If you would like to arrange further work experience, you can start by contacting: -

  • Sports club physiotherapists- often reached by emailing the club.
  • Special needs schools and units for disabled children and adults.
  • Voluntary work with charities in your local area such as Parkinson’s UK, MS Society, Age UK, Stroke charities or brain injury charities.
  • local residential homes
