Physical Activity

Whatever your age, there's strong scientific evidence that being physically active can help you lead a healthier and happier life.

Exercise is a key part of maintaining good health and preventing disease. Regular physical activity helps manage weight, lowers the risk of heart disease, strengthens muscles and bones and improves mood and energy levels. Even small amounts of daily movement such as walking, gardening or gentle stretching can make a big difference over time and help you stay active independent and healthy.

Practical tips

  • ENJOYMENT - Find activities you enjoy, find a friend to get involved, look at classes, get the whole family involved in a new sport.
  • Incorporate physical activity into your daily routine.
  • Set goals which aren’t about the physical appearance of your body… ‘I would like to be fit enough to walk my grandchildren to the park.’
  • Increase slowly to avoid injury.
